Forsyth County News’ story by Daniel Dotson from May 15, 2025, included a statement from Forsyth County Commissioner Chairman Alfred John, “Commissioner Bettman was very clear that the NHL has a desire to be in the Atlanta region.” Followed later by a quote from The Gathering development team’s Carl Hirsh, “If you listen to what Commissioner Bettman said last week, I don’t think they’re looking to come to Atlanta eight years from now; I think they want to come to Atlanta now… meaning three to four years.”
According to the news story, “Once the operating and lease agreement is approved, [Carl] Hirsh says Vernon Krause, the visionary behind The Gathering, will travel to New York City and present the final document to NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman.”
